Pillowcase Dresses. Oh My!

I love making Pillowcase Dresses for dear Ava...they are easy and can be made within the hour. I admit that I have been known to get up early in the morning just to make a special dress for her to wear to a party that same afternoon. You got it, I don't have a life outside my home...but it's a life I love!

I even select different fabrics based upon the event. For example, we attended a Jazz Festival in our city and I selected fabric that was covered in wind instruments to suit the occasion...We received many comments from people saying she looked like a little "Movie Star"..

The great thing about Pillowcase Dresses is that they can be made from a variety of fabrics but I do prefer the clean look of cotton or a cotton/poly mix. Pair the dress with leggings and a long sleeve shirt for the cooler months and you have a completely different look.

I am never satisfied with the HO HUM regular stuff, I love to add a touch of glitz and glamour to my Creations!
I add ribbons, trim and whatever else I can think of to "glam up" these dresses.

I am the happy Wife of Brent and Mom of 5 year old Ava. It's not unusual for me to have a variety of projects on the go at any given time. I love multi-tasking!

"For me, sewing is like a good book. It's hard to put down and each of my designs tell a story".

My grandmother Amelia first taught me to sew when I was 9 years old. My first project ever was a skirt make from a faded old yellow pillow case. Let me tell you, I wore that skirt with a huge sense of pride and accomplishment.

I remember my Grandmother telling me that sewing is becoming a lost art and that it was a shame there are many women today who don't know how to sew. Sewing was an absolute necessity for her while growing up in the early 1900s and was essential skill for surviving through the Great Depression. I am preserving the art of sewing with each item that is produced in my design room.

DIY projects get me excited while Nature inspires me...I love to look at objects created by Mother Nature Herself and convert them into my own fabric versions.

I started teaching Ava to sew at the age of 3. She is my biggest Fan and can't wait to see what I have made for her.
